Bosnia and Herzegovina used to play their football as part of Yugoslavia. They played their first match as Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1995. Bosnia and Herzegovina have never qualified for a major competition but lost out by just one goal in the last match against Denmark in Euro 2004.

Bosnia had some excellent results in the 2006 World Cup Qualifying campaign. They twice drew with Spain 1 - 1. They had a 0 - 0 draw with Serbia and beat Belgium at home. They finished the group in 3rd place just four points outside of a playoff place.
