Belgium are a much stronger team than people believe and have qualified for 11 World Cups their best finish was in 1986 when they finished fourth. Their record in the European Championships is not as good as their World Cup record and have only qualified four times, but were runners -up in 1980.

Belgium failed to qualify for the 2006 World Cup which broke a run of six consecutive World Cup appearances. They also failed to qualify for Euro 2008 finishing a disappointing 5th in their group behind the likes of Finland and Serbia.
