Angola qualified for their first ever World Cup in 2006 after finishing top of their qualification group beating Nigeria and Zimbabwe. Angola have not had a lot of success in the African Nations cup failing to get pass the first round. They have amazingly qualified for only three African Nations.

Angola put up a solid fight in the 2006 World Cup. They lost their first match against a very strong Portuguese side. In their next match they managed to draw with Mexico who have always been a good team. Angola then drew with Iran to leave them without enough points to qualify.
