Albania have always been classed as one of the weakest teams in Europe but have managed to pull of some very surprising results against strong opponents. Albania have never qualified for a major competition but in 1968 they managed to draw with West Germany 0 - 0 which eliminated them.

Albania have improved as a team in recent years. In an attempt to qualify for the 2006 World Cup they won four matches including victory over the European Champions Greece. They also defeated Georgia and Kazakhstan to finish with 13 points and 5th place in the group.
