The World Matchplay is the second biggest tournament on the PDC circuit. It is contested by 32 players in a straight knockout format. It differs from other events in that there is no deciding legs as players must win by two clear legs to progress. Stan James have been the sponsors since 2000.

The tournament takes place in July at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. It was first staged in 1994 and Phil Taylor has been the tournaments most successful player recording eight victories. The current champion is James Wade who defeated Terry Jenkins 18 - 7 in the final.
