The UK Open was founded in 2003 and is currently sponsored by Blue Square. There are number of qualifying events all across Britain to establish the 128 participants. It is known as the FA Cup of darts as it gives the lesser known players a chance to compete with the stars.

The tournament is staged at the Reebok Stadium in June each year with live coverage on Sky Sports. Phil Taylor has produced a perfect 9 dart finish four times in the UK Open and has won the title twice but has not landed the trophy since 2005.
