Dave Whitcombe was born on June 27th, 1954 in England. He was one of the best darts players in the world during the 1980s winning the World Masters twice in 1982 and 1985. He reached the final of the BDO World Championship twice but lost to Eric Bristow on both occasions.

Whitcombe lost to Bristow 6 times at Lakeside and was the reason he did not become World Champion. In 2004 he joined the PDC and qualified for the 2006 World Championship. He was beaten in the first round of the tournament by the number 4 seed Roland Scholten.
