Steve Smith was born on May 16th, 1979 in Dagenham, England. He has the nickname Smudger and made his TV debut in 2004 at the PDC World Championship losing to Mark Dudbridge in the 2nd Round. He beat Denis Ovens in Las Vegas in 2006 but lost in Round Two.

In 2007 Steve Smith again qualified for the World Championship but Ovens got revenge beating him 3 - 0 in the first round. Later in the season Smith had an excellent run in the UK Open reaching the last 32 before losing 7 - 11 to Kevin Painter.
