Mervyn King was born on the 15th March 1966 in Ipswich, England. He has the nickname the King and made his TV debut at Lakeside in 1997. That year he set a record for the most 180s in the competition before finally losing in the Semi Finals. In 2004 he landed his only major title, the World Masters.

King was twice a losing finalist in the BDO World championship in 2002 and 2004. He lost to the eventual champion on 7 occasions. In 2007 he switched to the PDC. In his first season he made it to the Quarter Finals of the World Matchplay losing to James Wade 11 - 16.
