Barrie Bates was born on October 17th, 1969 in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. He is nicknamed Batesey and made his TV Debut in 2003. Bates has been a regular on the PDC circuit over the past few years with some very impressive results. This has helped him move up the world rankings.

His most impressive performance came at the 2006 UK Open. Bates started the event as a 100/1 outsider despite having won several smaller tournaments earlier in the year. He progressed all the way to the final in front of the cameras before eventually losing out to Raymond Van Barneveld.
