The BDO World Championship was founded in 1978. In 1994 their was a dispute between the players and the BDO and a break away organisation was formed known as the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). As a result their have been two World Championship each year since 1994.
The tournament has been played at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green, Surrey since 1986. It is held in January each year and receives live coverage on the BBC. There have been some memorable moments at Lakeside including Kieth Deller winning as a qualifier in 1983. |
