Key Points
- This tennis betting tip comes from the Rogers Cup WTA tournament in Toronto, Canada.
- Victoria Azarenka (#4) is at her highest ever ranking and is possibly the most consistent player in the world right now.
- She's up against Serena Williams tonight and I feel there is certainly some value in backing her to win that match. I prefer to back her in the outright market however as in my book she'd be a very strong favourite if she were to make it to the final.
- Azarenka is in great form this week. She's only played 6 sets but has only lost 6 games against decent players.
- I'm sure she will have watched a lot of Serena Williams's tennis this week and it certainly has not been impressive. She hits the ball hard enough and has been determined in her matches but has been very inconsistent.
- It's hard to see her improving greatly tonight given that she's lost sets this week against Zheng (#83) and Safarova (#32). Azarenka is a far more accomplished player than the other players Williams has faced this week.
- Williams said earlier in the week that she was not yet "grand slam ready" and last night she joked about wanting to go and sing karaoke in the city if she had lost to Safarova.
- It may have only been a joke but it indicates that she doesn't care too much about this tournament.
- Next week she'll be back on court in Cincinatti and my feeling is that she will take that tournament more seriously.
- Azarenka beat Serena in straight sets on hard courts back in 2009 and I believe she'll do the same tonight.
- Moving on to a potential final Radwanska (#13) would be a tough opponent as she's been in great form recently. She has been suffering with a shoulder injury however and is not able to serve at 100%,
- After a tough semi-final it would be quite incredible for her to then beat the world number 4 in the final. I dont see this happening.
- Stosur (#10) could also make things tough for Azarenka in the final but Stosur has been very inconsistent this year.
- It seems she's spent too much time in the gym and not enough time on the tennis court. She hits the ball hard but lacks consistency (a bit like Serena).
- Azarenka has been a much better player all year.
- She is certainly my favourite to take the title at this stage and at 3.8 it seems to be a great value bet.
