Key Points
- This tennis betting tip is from the US Open 2nd round match between Nikolay Davydenko (#39) and Potito Starace (#52).
- Despite having put a lot of money on this bet I almost hope that it loses!
- I'd love to see Davydenko back to his best as he was in 2009. For a time he was the best player in the world in fast indoor conditions but it seems he never really recovered from injuries he sustained in the early part of 2010.
- This year he's not been very competitive at all. Whether a tournament is a Grand Slam or not doesn't seem to make much difference to him. Some days or weeks he's up for it and other days he isn't.
- I'd like to see him win this match as his next opponent would be Djokovic. That would at least give Djokovic one competitive match in week 1 but my feeling is that Davydenko would prefer to avoid this match.
- Djokovic is simply a physical monster on the court this year and in reality Davydenko knows he would have almost no chance of winning that match, so Davydenko may let Starace take on Djokovic instead.
- Davydenko's already had one tough 5-setter against Dodig (#33) and I think he may not be up for another tough fight.
- Starace's at his best on clay but he can certainly make things tough on a hard court.
- We've seen some claycourt specialists doing well this week, e.g. Ramos and Lisnard so I see no reason why Starace won't play well here.
- He's in good form having just won the San Marino challenger without losing a set and he had a fairly easy win against Berrer (#84) in round 1.
- I expect him to continue his good form and Davydenko to be less than 100% motivated as he has usually been this year.
