This tennis betting tip comes from the 2nd round US Open match between Anabel Medina Garrigues (#33) and Laura Robson (#173).
Medina Garrigues is a solid but not exceptional player who's perhaps past her best now at the age of 29. Her favourite surface is clay, she's 5 foot 6 and lacks any big weapons.
Robson is 5 foot 10 so there is a significant difference in height between these two but more importantly in the style of play of both players. Robson is a very attacking player with technically great shots. Her main weakness is her movement around the court, but she's improving in this department of her game.
She's still only 17 so inexperience is possibly another weakness of hers although she won junior Wimbledon at the age of 14 and has been playing high pressure matches for more than 3 years now.
Medina withdrew with a knee injury from the tournament in New Haven last week and then struggled in her first round here in New York. She played over 2 and a half hours against Knapp (#194) and I'm sure that wouldn't have helped her knee.
Losing a set against Knapp indicates that she is either suffering with her knee, in poor form or both. Whatever is the case it's good news for this bet.
Robson's potential and talent is not in doubt, she has the shots to overpower Medina and if she can avoid too many unforced errors this is her match for the taking.
If Medina retires after the first set this bet will be a winner.
Robson's price has come in a bit but I still think this bet is great value!
