Key Points
- This tennis betting tip is for Novak Djokovic in the Men's Singles Australian Open winner market.
- Djokovic has been the most impressive player so far this tournament so I don't understand why his odds have not changed since the start of the week.
- He's a virtual certainty to reach the semi-final, at which point I'm sure he'll be an odds on favourite, so I see value in the current price.
- Hewitt has zero chance against Djokovic tonight. These are two players of different generations and tennis has moved on a lot since Hewitt was in his prime.
- Next up for Novak will be David Ferrer or Richard Gasquet. Ferrer doesn't have the weapons to hurt Novak while Gaquet doesn't have the mentality to win such a match.
- The semi final will probably be the first real test for Novak and he'll come up against Andy Murray or J-W Tsonga. The match between Murray and Tsonga is likely to be very close, so the winner of that match may be fatigued by the semi final.
- Murray is playing well but he has shown time and time again that against the big 3 in the Grand Slams, he underperforms. Given the 3-0 thrashing Djokovic handed him last year it would be an extreme turnaround for Murray to beat him this year.
- Tsonga has had success against Djokovic in the past and is playing well but I feel that the courts in Melbourne are too slow for him.
- In the final Djokovic is likely to be up against Federer but with the likes of Del Potro still to play Federer has his work cut out. Federer's main weakness these days is his fitness and it will be extremely tough for him to win this tournament given the fairly slow nature of the courts, his potential opponents and the hot weather.
- Nadal has the physique to win the tournament but is simply doesn't have the pure tennis skills of Federer or Djokovic. With Djokovic in great form and fitness it would be extremely tough for Nadal to beat him.
- Del Potro is another danger in the draw but I feel he still lacks the fitness of the top players and will not be able to win 3 5 setters over the next few days.
- It's hard to imagine anyone other than Novak Djokovic winning this tournament and I think 2.15 is good value.
