- The winner of this match will play Monfils (10) and I don't think Cilic will fancy that contest.
- I think he will be looking to prepare well for the Paris Masters where he has a good record and every match will count towards ranking points.
- So I have a suspicion that Cilic will not give 100% today and that Granollers with his higher level of motivation and crowd support will have no trouble winning the match.
- On the other hand Cilic's competitive nature may mean that he gives this match his all but even then I feel that Granollers has a good chance.
- Cilic won the tournament in St Petersburg last week and may be a bit fatigued from all the tennis and travel in the last couple of weeks.
- Last week he played poor tennis at times and was very lucky to come through against Seppi (52) in the quarter finals.
- If it wasn't for an injury to Tipsarevic in the last set of their final on Sunday, I don't think CIlic would have won the match.
- The conditions in Valencia are fairly slow and Cilic's serve is unlikely to win him as many free points as it usually does. He will have to work hard to hold serve and Granollers who's more of an all-court player, may be able to take advantage of this.
- He certainly loves the conditions here as he performed so well last year.
- I'm aware that Cilic leads the head to head here 4-0 but I don't think that is too important here. Cilic may not mind finally losing a match against the Spaniard.
- I expect Granollers to win a close match.
