- There's not a lot to choose between these two players when you look at their head to head which stands at 4-4.
- Cilic has won the last 3 encounters but it was Seppi who won a Davis Cup match between the two in Croatia back in 2008.
- Cilic won easily when these two met in Umag, Croatia earlier this year. Cilic was clearly the more motivated player for that match and it seemed to me the Seppi gave less than 100% effort. It's possible that Cilic will return the favour today in a match that won't mean much to him.
- Cilic can only gain ranking points if he wins this week's tournament, which will certainly be a tough task given the form of Tipsarevic (13) who's making a determined run to try to get a place at the ATP Finals in London.

- Seppi is in very good form. The fact that he's beaten the Russian, Andreev (115) two weeks in a row shows that he's taking these tournaments very seriously.
- He recently won a challenger in Mons on this surface and this year he won his first ever ATP title on grass in Eastbourne.
- His other title this year was at an indoor challenger in Bergamo so it's clear that he's at his best on fast courts these days and he will be very tough to beat today.
- Cilic is a more powerful player but when his game is off he makes a lot of unforced errors.
- Yesterday he lost a set to Devvarman (84) and he hasn't played much indoor tennis lately.
- Seppi looks to be great value today!
