- Young is in the best form of his life and I'm not going to argue that he's not the better player here. This bet is all about one fact - Young is the number one seed in qualifying here, which means that he may well not have to win this match to qualify.
- If he loses this match and one player from the main draw retires then Young will be first in line for a place in the main draw. When you consider that the likes of Murray, Nadal and Cilic have yet to play their finals in Tokyo and Beijing and that many of the players may not yet have arrived in Shanghai, the likelihood that one of the 56 players in the draw will retire is very high.
- Young may even have knowledge that one of the players in the draw is out and therefore not take this match too seriously.
- He's played a lot of tennis is recent weeks so won't be too keen on competing hard in a qualifying match if he doesn't need to.
- He's never been to Shanghai before and he had a tough match against Yani (189) in his first match so even if he gives his all here he might find things tough.
- Zverev has had a bad year but he likes this venue.
- He beat Davydenko (6) here last year on the way to the last 16 and he will be desperate to get some ATP points this week to avoid his ranking dropping too far.
- He had a good win against Soeda (118) yesterday and will therefore be confident ahead of tonight's match.
- He is an attacking player who likes to come to the net and plays a different style of tennis to most players on the ATP tour.
- Young is still very inexperienced at ATP 1000 tournaments and I think he's still likely to lose the odd match against players of this level.
- Zverev is a great bet here as it's highly likely that Young will tank or give minimum effort in this match.
