- Arnaud Clement (#169) is not playing as much as he used to but his still a very good grasscourter at the age of
- 33.
- He played Kubot (#93) at Wimbledon losing a tight match in 5 sets. This result was not so bad when you
- consider that Kubot was one point away from the quarter finals later in the tournament.
- He's won 6 of his 9 grasscourt matches this year and beat Volandri (#73) at Roland Garros so he's in pretty good
- form.
- He'll be highly motivated this week as he knows that this is one of the weakest events on the ATP tour. As it's a
- fast grasscourt tournament he has more chance of success here than at any other event.
- In the past he's had good results on grass reaching the quarters of Wimbledon in 2008, the final in Nottingham in
- 2007 and the semis of Queen's in the same year. He was also a finalist twice in Den Bosch in 2002 and 2003.
- Ryan Harrison (#101) had a very good Wimbledon but is certainly not a grasscourt specialist like Clement.
- He was lucky to get into Wimbledon as a lucky loser after losing to Stebe (#208) in qualifying.
- He's only 19 years old and simply doesn't have much experience of playing on grass. It takes a few years to learn
- to play on this surface, especially on fast grass like the courts in Newport.
- Harrison is a baseliner who doesn't have a huge serve so may find things difficult on these courts which are often
- poor quality and have an irregular bounce.
- Harrison will have home support but expect Clement to be highly motivated to cause the upset. A good week here
- could improve his ranking considerably and allow him to get into more ATP events towards the end of the year.
- I think Clement's greater experience and grasscourt ability will get him the win here.
