Key Points
- I bet Tomas Berdych (#9) can hardly believe his luck this week. He's only in the quarterfinals but when he looks at the draw I'm sure he'll be highly confident of making the final.
- After good wins against Dolgopolov (#21) and Karlovic (#126) he's in good form going into today's match against Tipsarevic (#24).
- Tipsarevic has beaten Berdych on indoor courts in the past but outdoors Berdych beat him 6-0 6-4 last time they met. Tipsarevic is too inconsistent from the back of the court to be a threat to Berdych this week and he lacks any big weapons.
- Next up would be Fish (#8) or Wawrinka (#17) neither of whom look to be in great shape this week.
- Wawrinka has been out of form for a few months and looks overweight. He struggled to get past Anderson (#35) last night and wouldn't pose much of a threat to Berdych.
- Fish has been in great from but withdrew from Washington last week with a heel injury. He didn't look to be at his best last night coming through against Gulbis (#55) in 3 tight sets. Berdych would be a strong favourite against Fish in my book.
- On the other half of the draw Tsonga (#16) and Djokovic (#1) both look in great form and it's not surprising that they head the betting markets.
- This potential semi-final has all the makings of a classic as was the semi-final of Wimbledon. Djokovic would be the obvious favourite but Tsonga leads their head to head 5-3. I wouldn't bet much on either player but a long three set thriller going late into Saturday night wouldn't surprise me.
- This situation would be great for Berdych as I guess his semi-final is likely to be first on court in the afternoon for his semi-final. He could be well rested coming into the final on Sunday and full of confidence to win his second Masters title.
- 13.0 on a player who's very likely to reach the final of a tournament is fantastic, especially when he has plenty of experience of this level of tennis.
