He wasn't serving at top speed in his match against Seppi yesterday and he hit a lot of unforced errors in his 3 set win.
Even without the back injury speculation Tsonga would be confident of success today.
Federer has clearly asserted his dominance over the Frenchman in recent months, but may feel that losing today would not be such a bad thing.
His priority is of course to be fully fit for the Australian Open which is just 10 days away. A match against an in form Nadal tomorrow is probably not what he wants at this stage.
At this stage of his career Federer is very clever not to push himself too far in lesser events.
Tsonga will certainly fancy his chances today. He knows how to beat Federer when the Swiss man is slightly off his game.
