Key Points

  • This tennis betting tips is from the second round at ATP Chennai and the match between Yen-Hsun Lu (82) and Yuichi Sugita (235).
  • 23 year old Sugita is having a great week. So far he's already won 4 matches against decent opponents and has only lost 1 set.
  • Beating both De Voest (126) and Rochus (67) in straight sets shows that he's in good form.
  • He lost a tight 3-setter against Lu last October and there's no reason why he can't go one step further and beat him tomorrow.
  • Lu will want to get to Australia soon and start preparing for the Australian Open. Reaching the quarter-final in Chennai wouldn't have much of an impact on his ranking and he would probably lose against Almagro anyway in the next round.
  • There's no doubt that this match will mean a lot more to Sugita. A win would put him on the verge of the top 200 and mean he'll get a lot more direct entries into challenger events.
  • Sugita impressively beat Devvarman (65) in a Davis Cup match in Japan last year and he took Raonic (30) to a final set tie-break last October.
  • Another impressive result was a win against the big serving Brands (139) in Wimbledon qualifying.
  • He simply needs some ranking points to enable him to play at this level of tennis on a more regular basis.
  • Lu has benefited in the past from his opponents not trying too hard against him e.g. Verdasco last year in Madrid, and I think he may well do Sugita a favour tomorrow by not giving 100%.
  • The match will be not be played on Court 1 which simply looks like a court at your local tennis club. There'll be almost no spectators watching and therefore we should expect the unexpected.
  • I expect a win for the Japanese player tomorrow and at this price I'm very happy to back him.
