Mackenzie McDonald v Kei Nishikori

Tennis - Challenger Dallas - 04 Feb 02:45

McDonald is in excellent shape this year with an 8-2 overall record, and the odds on the local player have tumbled.

The young American almost upset Dimitrov in the 2nd round of the Australian Open, taking the Bulgarian to 48 games, and he has beaten players like Rubin, Robert, and Ymer this year.

McDonald's 4-0 indoor record this year is identical to that of Nishikori's.

McDonald has won 8 of his last 9 matches while Nishikori has won 4 of his 5 matches since making his return from injury.

The Japanese star obviously has much better career statistics, but McDonald's 20-11 career indoor record is not too far behind Nishikori's 69-30 career indoor record.

Nishikori is still finding his feet after recovering from a wrist injury, and he lost to Novikov in Newport Beach last week and was forced to go the distance by Bachinger this week.

McDonald has been impressive in Dallas this week, beating his compatriots Tiafoe, Smyczek, and Kudla without too much difficulty, and he has a decent chance to win this home event given that Nishikori is yet to regain his old standard.
