Aus Open Women: Halep

Tennis - Aus Open - Women - 25 Jan 03:00

I must admit I am slightly concerned about my outright bet on Kerber even though the German has played pretty well thus far in Melbourne. The main reason being her next opponent Simona Halep, who has looked a completely different player after the incredible comeback win over Davis. The Romanian beat a tough Osaka in straight sets few days ago and tormented Pliskova in the last round after being 3-0 and a break point down. Unlike Madison Keys, Kerber will have a much tougher match on paper with Halep unlikely to make many unforced errors.
While I do agree Kerber is the right favourite tomorrow, one cannot ignore that she has been beaten by Halep 3 times on hard courts.
Above everything, Halep is the current world number 1 and is yet to win a grandslam (came close at last year's French Open). That fact should give the Romanian some extra motivation to play well.
In summary, apart from this being a cover bet on my outright on Kerber, I do think she has a decent chance as well to fetch this title by her last couple of performances.
