Alexander Zverev v Kei Nishikori

Tennis - ATP Washington - 06 Aug 00:00

I really fancy Zverev for this semi-final matchup, he's been excellent in this tournament so far not to mention he's starting to play some of the best tennis of his life at the ripe age of 20. Zverev only dropped 10 serving points in his last match against Medvedev, he had a 1st serve win % of 83% and a 2nd serve % of 71%, these are big numbers. Zverev has also won the last 5 sets in a row and looks to be dusting off opponents at this tournament.

On the other hand, Nishikori played 32 games against Tommy Paul, a player who is ranked 225 in the world. He has had two matches in this tournament that have been around 2.5 hours long, apart from Zverev's first round match, he's wrapped them up in less than 90 minutes and even in less than 60 minutes against Medvedev. Zverev has been on court around 60-70% of the time Nishikori has and with age on his side surely he will be much fitter here today. If this match gets tight, Zverev has an excellent 14-5 TB record this season. Nishikori won 49% of his second serves in his last match, a player like Zverev will certainly pounce on this kind of stat and he offered up 9 break points last match. For the full tournament, Zverev has been much tighter and only offered up 10 break points, against Nishikori's 20 on offer.

Boylesports are generous with 5/6 here, the rest of the bookies are 8/11 at best, standout odds here.

I was tempted by the handicap here thinking that Nishikori would tire at the end of the game and the final set could be a strong one to Zverev, but with odds like this from Boylesports i'm happy to max out on the win.
