Welsh Open Stephen Maguire

Snooker - Welsh Open - 15 Feb 09:00

Stephen Maguire is a former winner of the Welsh Open, having captured the title in 2013 which was also his last full ranking event win so he is more than due for another.

His record in the event as a whole is brilliant reaching the final in 2011 before losing out to John Higgins. Higgins beat him again in last years quarter finals before going on to lift the title but this year they're in separate halves of the draw once again.

Looking at Maguires quarter it features guys like Stuart Bingham and Joe Perry, who have not had the best seasons while Judd Trump also in that quarter has been inconsistent.

Word amongst certain players that I've spoken to is that Maguire is going to win something soon the way that he is currently playing and I certainly agree. He made the quarter-finals in the German Masters beating Mark Selby before losing out to an inspired Graeme Dott and also won Group 3 of the Championship League a couple of weeks ago.

Stephen may also benefit from not attending the Snooker Shoot-out this weekend and instead preparing well for this event in which he could do with a run to guarantee his place in next months World Grand Prix and to stay in the Top 16 of the World rankings to qualify automatically for the final stages of the World Championships.
