Mark Williams v Paul S Davison

Snooker - UK Championship - 30 Nov 09:30

Longshot but Paul Davison beating Mark Williams isn't beyond the realm of possibilities and he looks a big price to progress.

Williams has just won his first title in 6 years at the NI Open in what was a titanic final win big in a deciding frame against Chinese superstar Yan Bingtao. Could he be fatigued coming into this? He has played a lot of snooker lately.

On top of this, Marks wife is still ill in hospital. He has just won a title, you couldn't blame him if his heart isn't in it this week. An early exit would mean he gets to spend more time with his sick wife so you have to question his motivation/desire for the tournament.

Paul is a Yorkshire man so he must be buzzing to play at his home event. He has made it past R1 in 2 of his 3 visits here. He was 3.75 when he beat Gary Wilson here in 2016 so he is a player capable of winning as an Underdog.

Davison has made R3 of the Paul Hunter Classic and the Riga Masters this season. That's his best ever result on tour so he's coming into this match in good nick. Paul is a really solid safety player and as I said this could be a good time to play Mark.

If Mark brings his A game then he will win, but I have my doubts he will, and this could be a good opportunity for the local man.

Mark King won the NI Open in 2016 before losing in R1 here (1.29) and I think Mark could easily suffer the same fate.
