Dally M Medal Daly Cherry-Evans

Rugby league - NRL 2018 - 08 Mar 08:50

The Dally M Medal (player of the season) is decided by a group of media personal. Each game they hand out 3 points to the best player on the pitch, 2 points to the second best and 1 point to the third best.

The leaderboard is made public until round 14, after that the voting is done behind closed doors and we only see the final results at the end of season award ceremony.

Taking a look at the standings after round 14 and then again at the end of the season makes Daly Cherry-Evans look like a cracking bet.

After round 14: Cameron Smith 1st on 20 points, Daly Cherry-Evans 20th on 8 points.

Final standing after round 26: Cameron Smith 1st on 28 points, Daly Cherry-Evans 5th with 21 points.

That's some move up the leader board by Daly Cherry-Evans, he outscored 1st place Cameron Smith 13 points to 8 during the latter stages of the season.

Had Daly Cherry-Evans started the season better and caught the eye more then who knows, he might have won the Dally M Medal, he would definitely have got closer.

This season he takes over as captain for Manly Sea Eagles, he's said he can't wait to take responsibility and lead by example.

I'm expecting he to start this season as he ended the last, hopefully that will lead to him being in the mix early rather tan playing catch up this time.

16/1 looks like a very good price in my opinion.
