F1 Bahrain GP Bottas Group Win vs Massa/Ricciardo/Kvyat

Other sports - F1 2016 Bahrain GP - 03 Apr 16:00

Another tip for the Bahrain GP later this afternoon and is for Bottas to win a group consisting of himself, Massa, Ricciardo and Kvyat

So Bottas and Massa both drive for Williams (Mercedes engine) and Ricciardo and Kvyat both drive for Red Bull (Renault engine)

From qualifying, Ricciardo starts 5th, Bottas 6th, Massa 7th and Kvyat 15th

Kvyat should make up some places but i dont see him getting as high as 6th/7th etc - maybe 9th or 10th

So for me this is between the other three and its a Bottas win in my view and here is why:

Bottas and Massa are in the quicker car for this track over a race distance, the Bahrain circuit features a large amount of straights

The circuit is a total of 5412m and the straights come to a total of 3075m - over 56% of the track

The Williams car of Massa and Bottas is widely regarded to be one of the slipperiest cars in a straight line - that is it does not carry much drag and slips through the air

It also has the powerful Mercedes engine compared with the Renault engine in the Red Bull of Ricciardo and Kvyat - an engine so bad that Red Bull tried to get engines from Mercedes, Ferrari and even Honda during the final months of last season but failed - so they run a rebranded Renault engine this year (branded as Tag Heuer)

In practice, the Williams cars were quickest through the speed traps at 335.3 km/h (average) whereas Red Bull were down at 327.0km/h

Another benefit for Bottas and Massa is that cars have to start the race on the cars that they set their quickest times on in qualifying 2

Both Bottas and Massa had already progressed from qualifying 2 but with a few minutes left, they both went back out to improve their times with a cleaner run giving them better tyres to start the race on

Luckily for us, Massa made a mistake and could not improve but Bottas did so he will be starting the race on the best tyres out of himself, Massa and Bottas

With regards to Bottas beating Massa, for me he is the better driver and has been performing better so far this weekend

In their long runs during practice, Bottas was on average 0.560 seconds quicker per lap - thats over 30 seconds in a race distance

Massa also has a new front wing for this race (he got it as he is higher in the championship) but it doesn't seem to be working as expected - Massa stating "Maybe it’s not a hundred per cent correct but I think it was OK and I hope anyway the new front wing can give a little bit for me in the race tomorrow. Valtteri (Bottas) did a very good lap even running with the old front wing so I think we need to really analyse everything if it’s better or not"

Finally, this race last year would also have been seen this bet win with Bottas finishing 4th, Ricciardo 6th, Kvyat 9th and Massa 10th

For me, one place on the grid does not make so much of a difference over the course of 50+ laps and will take the 3/1 from Bet365 that Bottas wins this group (found under Motorsport > Formula 1 > Group Betting)
