F1 Australian GP Williams Double Point Finish

Other sports - F1 2016 Australian GP - 20 Mar 05:00

Tipping Williams (Bottas and Massa) to score a double points finish in this weekends Australian GP

Williams finished last season as the 3rd best team, scoring 257 points in the constructors championship

In 19 races last season, they had 10 double points finishes

This should and perhaps could have been more - in Singapore, Massa had to retire after being hit by Hulkenberg whilst running in the points (Bottas finished 5th)

Also in the Brazilian GP, both drivers finished in the points (Bottas in 5th & Massa in 8th) but Massa was disqualified for tyre temperature irregularities

In this race last season, Massa qualified very well in 3rd and Bottas started from 6th - Massa was able to convert that into a 4th place finish but Bottas did not race due to a back injury but points would have been on the cards for him too

Looking back to 2014 and again both drivers qualified in the top 10 and this time it was Massa who could not convert the good grid place into a points finish - he was crashed into buy Kobayashi whose brakes had failed on the start straight (Bottas finished 5th in the race)

If we look into Williams' winter practice performance then i am encouraged too - overall they had the 5th quickest time behind Mercedes, Ferrari, Force India and Toro Rosso

But both Force India and Toro Rosso were on softer tyre compounds. Force India were on SuperSoft and Toro Rosso on the softest tyre of all - the UltraSoft (Massa was just on regular soft tyres)

Despite the difference in tyres, Massas time was just 0.083s slower than Force India and 0.059s slower than Toro Rosso whilst its also worth noting they were just 0.184s slower than Mercedes on the same tyres

This is not 100% accurate as fuel levels are not known etc and one car could have less fuel on than another but Williams are not known for trying to hit headline times and are known as a team to run conservative fuel levels

All this leads me to believe that Williams are still the best of the rest behind Mercedes and Ferrari and i fancy them to both finish well inside the top 10

I would have thought this bet would be odds on so will have to take best odds of 2.00 from Bet365
