RSA Chase Aux Ptits Soins

Horse racing - RSA Chase - 15 Mar 14:10

This is the RSA Chase. A 24.5 furlong, Grade 1, Novice Chase.
Aux Ptits Soins is a 6 year old gelding, trained by Paul Nicholls.
Aux Ptits Soins is really well regarded by connections and they think of him as a Gold Cup horse of the future. The RSA Chase is a stepping stone to the Gold Cup, it's the natural route for this horse to go down and he's definitely got the class to win.
He was originally trained in France and was a really nice sort, 2 from 2 over hurdles and beaten a neck into 3rd in a bumper. The form of those runs stacks up too, finishing ahead of Arbre De Vie and Net D'Ecosse who are now doing well in graded company for Willie Mullins.
He was then sold and sent to Paul Nicholls, after just 6 months at this yard he was thrown straight into the 2015 Coral Cup. That was such a bold thing to do, throwing him in a top Grade 2 handicap at the Cheltenham festival having never raced over here before.
The decision to run him in that race paid off as he actually won, only by a neck but he showed some serious ability to win, especially on his first run over here. He beat some high class animals that day, including future Grade 1 winner Zabana.
After that superb debut for this yard he suffered with a number of small setbacks, meaning he was sidelined for 12 months.
He returned again in 2016 to contest the World Hurdle, another massive statement, running him in another huge race Grade 1 at Cheltenham Festival. He eventually finished 5th, albeit beaten 40 lengths, not a bad thing considering Paul Nicholls has since admitted he was nowhere near ready to return and should have never took part.
This is clearly a really high class horse, backing up some smart French form with runs at back to back Cheltenham Festivals, mixing it with and beating Grade 1 horses along the way. I have no doubting his ability to win an RSA Chase and I suspect he will be a Gold Cup winner one day too.
Paul Nicholls has stated that all his setbacks are well behind him now, he's been schooling really well over fences and is in great form.
He's not confirmed the RSA an a target but I cant see him going down any other route. The JLT could be another option but if you think you have a Gold Cup horse you have to go the RSA route.
I also think it's a good idea backing him now as I suspect Paul Nicholls will find him a nice small race for his chase debut, one that he should win easily, these odds could shorten right up after that.
As long as this horse stays injury free he should be a high class novice chaser this term and be a serious contender for the RSA come March. I'm more that happy to take 14/1, even with 5 months to go.
