Kempton Lulu The Rocket - Each Way

Horse racing - Kempton - 08 Nov 19:10

At a price I think LULU THE ROCKET is worth a try in the 7.10 at Kempton. On bare form she would have pretty much no chance of winning but I'm very intrigued to see if the 12 furlong trip brings about as much improvement as I think it could.
This is a filly running off 48 today, a career low mark. She has dropped 9lbs in 3 runs since joining John Butler but it's worth noting she did finish second in a handicap off 56 just 5 starts ago meaning she's 8lbs lower for that here and of obvious interest from a handicapping perspective. The form of that race actually worked out strongly with the winner subsequently rising 10 lbs in the weights so 48 is an interesting mark whatever you think of the fillies recent form.

She has a slightly bizarre look to her form she's been campaigned between various trips from 10 furlongs to 16 furlongs. It's either connections are still finding her right trip or they have been getting the mark down for a punt (stable known for them). This is someone who was closely linked to Barney Curley after all. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/other-sports/362067/Horse-Racing-John-Butler-in-the-spotlight-yet-again/amp

Having watched her last 5 races on the re run I am very hopeful she can run a good race at this 12 furlongs trip. She caught the eye somewhat at Chelmsford over 10 furlongs where she made late headway in 7th. She actually travelled quite well into the straight but she was far too back to mount a realistic challenge in a race dominated by the prominent horses. She looked to need further yardage that day. She clearly didn't stay over 14 furlongs at Wolverhampton. She was backed in from 12s to 5s just before the off and this was on a mark of 57. If someone somewhere was thinking the filly was capable of that sort of mark what will they be making of 48? Makes you think she can definitely do some damage here.

She was last seen not trying to win. She was sent to the lead over 2 miles (16 furlongs) in a bid to possibly get that mark down even further perhaps? This looks her right trip and a very poor looking handicap (depth wise anyway). I'm hoping for an improved run from Lulu The Rocket and I see her running better then her odds suggest. Trainer John Butler has been a good one to follow in recent seasons. You'd be up £558.20 if you backed every horse of his in the last 3 seasons to a £10 stake. As I said on recent form you wouldn't give her much of a chance but the combination of a career low mark and the potential for improvement at this trip make her a betting proposition. I'll back her each way given she finished her races really well over 10 furlongs. If she's too far back to win hopefully she can at the worst run into a place which equals profit.

20/1 looks decent value especially given how poor this race looks on paper. No idea which way she will go in the betting, but I'm happy to take a chance and all in all I think she's worth a stab today. 1/4 odds 1-2-3 with Paddy Power.
