Greatwood Hurdle Mohaayed - each way

Horse racing - Greatwood Hurdle - 19 Nov 15:30

Have been waiting for the betting on the Greatwood Hurdle to appear for a while (19th November) and at the current prices MOHAAYED looks a decent bet at 20/1.

He's one of my handicappers to follow this season and I think there's plenty of juice in his handicap mark of 137.

He did well in his first season over hurdles. He won twice and ran to a pretty consistent level throughout his 6 runs.

Mohaayed caught my eye over this course and distance when he was 7th in the County at the Festival. He shaped very encouragingly on his first try at this venue. He was sandwiched on the turn for home (travelling okay at the time) but still kept on well up the hill shaping as if he definitely had a big handicap win in him.

The form of that race has worked out decently. He finished ahead of some smart sorts including subsequent Grade 2 winner Renneti (now rated 152), Wait For Me who has since rised 9lbs in the weights and Court Minstrel who won the Silver Trophy for the second time in three seasons at Chepstow the other week.

Mohaayed was then gambled on for the Scottish Champion Hurdle off a mark of 134. He didn't win but shaped well again finishing third in a race that was ran at an uneven gallop. The race wasn't run to suit Mohaayed but he still performed admirably.

With these big Cheltenham handicaps you are almost guaranteed to get true run affairs, and I think this is the kind of race that we should be seeing the best of Mohaayed.

Mohaayed was raised 3lbs for his Ayr third but a mark of 137 still looks very workable. He made Elgin (big race winner on Saturday at Ascot) pull out all the stops in his Kempton Novice and that horse will probably be 145-147 when reassessed by the handicapper.

Mohaayed is versatile with regards to ground which is a big plus (can't say the same about some of the opposition) and he's likely to be on a very nice racing weight.

Dan Skelton saddled Superb Story to finish second in this in 2015 and won this race last year with North Hill Harvey. He certainly knows what sort of horse is required for this handicap. Another very encouraging sign for Mohaayed.

5 year olds have won 5 of the last 9 renewals of this race and all in all I expect a big run from Mohaayed.

20/1 certainly won't last. It looks a competitive field but it's sure to be weaker in depth when the race declarations are out.

I have this horse as a mid 140 potentially so off 137 at 20/1 this bet is a no brainer. Haven't gone too big given we are still 2 weeks away from race day not to mention it's only the very start of the NH season but I'm very hopeful of a good showing and will be severely disappointed if this horse doesn't make the frame at least.

Looks a good betting proposition and as I said 20/1 won't last too long.
