Fontwell Benatar

Horse racing - Fontwell - 08 Jan 15:40

This is a 19 furlong, Class 5, Maiden Hurdle. The forecast going is soft.
Benatar is a 5 year old gelding, trained by Gary Moore, ridden by Jamie Moore.
Gary Moore has some really good horses to go to war with this season, to be honest neither his yard or any of these decent horses have fired so far this season, however Benatar looks exciting and could change all that.
He's raced just once so far, that came in a point-to-point. Sent off the 3/1 second favourite he absolutely bolted up, winning by 15 lengths.
He actually had the race sewn up 3 out having cruised into the lead with ease, from there he just cantered home.
Only two of the opponents he beat that day have raced since, they were 33 & 34 lengths behind Benatar and both have finished 2nd since. It looks like decent enough form.
Form aside the best thing to take from that debut win is that he won is a fastest time of the day, that was his debut and most of the horses running that day were experienced so it was clearly a good performance.
Overall a very good debut for this horse, he looked the part and backed it up with an excellent performance.
That was in November 2016 so he's had a bit of time to settle in to this yard.
He won that debut race on soft ground so this ground will be spot on.
He starts off at 19 furlongs here, again spot on, especially on this ground.
Gary Moore has had more winners at this track than any other trainer being represented here.
It just looks to me like Benatar could be a lot better than the opposition and at odds of 13/8 he looks good value. Double stakes.
