Hurdle Heartbreak City

Horse racing - Hurdle - 22 Jan 15:10

This is the hurdle. A 16 furlong, Grade B, Handicap Hurdle.
Heartbreak City is a 7 year old gelding, trained by Tony Martin.
Tony Martin is a master at getting horses extremely well handicapped and Heartbreak City could be one of the best he's ever done it with.
In 2016 this horse won 4 times, form figures of 1-16-1-1-1-2.
He was 2 from 2 over hurdles, winning off marks of 109 & 118. He won in the style of a horse miles ahead of that mark. One of those wins was at the Galway Festival too, a tough place for a handicap but often the scene of a handicap blot.
He also won 2 times on the flat, bolting up by 12 lengths at Cork before winning he Ebor by 4 lengths. He ended the year finishing 2nd by a neck in the Melbourne Cup, so unlucky too.
This is just a true sign of a horse miles ahead of it's mark in both codes, going for two massive races on the flat and winning snugly twice over hurdles.
Not long ago Tony Martin said the target for 2017 was a big prize over hurdles, although he never stated what it was. In a more recent interview, talking abut the entry for Heartbreak City in this, he said.
"“The hurdle is an important and valuable race in the calendar, Heartbreak City came out of his impressive performance in the Melbourne Cup well and this race is the most likely hurdle target for his next run, all going well".
So did he just give away what the target for this horse was, is it indeed this race? Well he talks about it like the 'big prize' he eluded to a while back, It's certainly interesting.
Something else worth noting is that any horse to win both this race and then the Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival will get a £100,000 bonus. Winning both would certainly be a big prize so maybe the plan is to win one or even both.
Well if this horse is to even gain an entry in the Coral Cup he needs to go up about 14lb in the weights, that basically means bolting up by like 20 lengths in this race. Maybe he's here to do just that.
There's no doubt that this horse is extremely well treated for this race, off a mark of 125 and carrying just 10-00. If he turns up he wins this race, simple as that.
Everything point to him definitely going for this, although with Tony Martin you never know. I would love to go max stakes as I can't see him getting beat, just in case something changes though I will stick to a confident £20.
Be aware for anyone thinking of going big, non-runner-no-bet is unavailable, if he doesn't turn up you lose your money, just stick to £20.
Paddy Power are offering odds of 4.50.
