Cheltenham Skidoosh

Horse racing - Cheltenham - 19 Nov 16:00

Trainer Ben Pauling has an excellent 21% strike rate in bumpers over the last 5 seasons (18 from 84), compared to 14% over hurdles and 17% over fences. I believe he's one of those trainers who target bumpers and therefore gets his horses really fit for those races. For me Skidoosh is the type of horse that needs to be backed in this type of event.

Skidoosh was obviously very fit on debut in a bumper on the 27th of October, sent off at 20/1 he won quite nicely. He was up with the pace throughout and was always going a quicker gallop than the opposition, allowing him to run on powerfully to the line and win by over 1 length. The form hasn't really been tested yet, although the Evens favourite that day was a horse the trainer thinks very highly of so in future we might look back and see this as good form.

The ground was good that day and although Skidoosh won in a decent time I'm certain this horse will love the deteriorating ground here at Cheltenham. He looks like a real strong galloper and he's fit. He could easily gallop them into the ground and Nico De Boinville doing the steering is a big help too.
