Cheltenham Percy Street

Horse racing - Cheltenham - 27 Oct 17:30

In the finale at Cheltenham I think PERCY STREET can go well here. This horse is trained by Nicky Henderson and he is of interest having been dropped to a mark of 120 today. He was useful on the flat achieving a rating of 97 (near enough listed level) and at times has shaped as if a decent hurdler. The 4 year old ran a fine race over this course and distance when 6th in the Fred Winter at the 2017 Festival. The form of that race has worked out well. All 5 that finished ahead of him that day are all significantly higher in the weights. The winner, runner up and third are subsequently 6lbs higher in the weights, the fourth 5lbs higher while the fifth has been raised 3lbs for finishing second recently. Percy Street is 4lbs lower for that run here so could definitely be a well handicapped horse if putting his best foot forward. He also shaped well at Ascot off 124 (4lbs higher mark than today) where he looked the most likely winner but for flattening the last hurdle.

The winner So Celebre is now 5lbs higher while the runner up Dolos is 3lbs higher in the weights. Again it makes you think Percy Street could do some damage from this handicap mark. 4 lengths behind Percy Street that day was Silver Streak who absolutely hosed up at Chepstows open meeting, so he has strong form credentials especially when he really should of won that race. This was a horse that was put into the Grade 2 Adonis by Nicky Henderson, one of the strongest juvenile races in the National Hunt Calendar - so you'd hope he could be better then his current mark of 120. We know he can act around Cheltenham given his solid 6th at the 2017 Festival and he's already had a recent pipe opener at Chepstow to strip him fit for this. He improved enormously on his second run to win last season so there's no reason why he can't do the same a year later.

Ned Curtis takes off a handy 3lbs and in an open race he looks to hold every chance.

Not going too overboard given this is only the start of the National Hunt season but I do think this is a horse that will win sooner rather than later given that favourable handicap mark.
