Cheltenham Dashing Perk

Horse racing - Cheltenham - 28 Oct 16:55

In a recent interview trainer Dr Richard Newland was asked to give the name of a horse that could make up into a Cheltenham Festival contender this season, he put forward Dashing Perk which is very interesting.

Dashing Perk won a point-to-point on career debut, on his rules debut he was then thrown into a Listed bumper which is hugely significant as most not many race at that level on rules debut. He was only beaten 10 lengths in that bumper which goes some way to justifying the entry and it shows that Dashing Perk has some class.

His second and third starts under rules came over hurdles, finishing 3rd over 2 miles before finishing 2nd over 3 miles last time out. Clearly this horse is a stayer as the step up to 3 miles worked well, it was probably just a lack of experience that cost him that day.

Interesting to see that he starts this season in a good race at Cheltenham given the trainers comments. He stays at 3 miles which is clearly his trip. Sam Twiston-Davies is booked to ride. Lots of little positives and he's worth a small play with the trainers comments suggesting he's a bit of a dark horse.
