Ascot Mister Manduro

In the closing staying handicap I think it could be worth taking a punt on MISTER MANDURO coming back to form.

Looking at this 2 mile contest it looks a slightly below par looking field for the class(3).

Mister Manduro admittedly has run poorly in his last few runs but today he's wearing first time blinkers which if they are to have the desired effect mean he has a really good chance to win this off 90.

This was a horse who ran some very good races earlier in the season. He finished a close second in a hot class 2 handicap at Bath.

The third from that race Permian is now rated 116 and subsequently won a Group 2 whilst placing at Group 1 level while the fourth Sofia's Rock is now rated 100, 15lbs higher than when finishing behind Mister Manduro.

Mister Manduro was also a close fourth in a very strong Musselburgh handicap behind stablemate Time To Study. That horse is now rated 100, 11lbs higher while the second and third from that race are now 9lbs and 10lbs higher in the weights subsequently. Mister Manduro is only 2lbs higher here for that run which looks very appealing from a handicapping perspective.

Mister Manduro was also 7th in an extremely good Queens Vase at this track. He finished just behind 115 rated Group 2 winner Desert Skyline and actually finished in front of Face The Facts who won a listed race over this distance at Newmarket on Friday.

Admittedly his last few runs have been poor, but he has had his excuses. He completely blew the start at Goodwood when was backed into favoritism (off 92, he's 2lbs lower today) and he just never got home over 2m 2f at Newmarket last time.

The booking of Joe Fanning catches my eye. This horse seems to only perform under Joe:

Joe Fanning aboard : 212
Other Jockeys aboard combined: 329470860.

It could be significant Joe has been booked by Mark Johnston here and Mister Manduro has run respectfully on both of his previous visits to Ascot.

Fair to say this horse is very inconsistent you can't be sure what Mister Manduro will turn up but providing the blinkers ignite a spark and he puts his best foot forward I think he has every chance of winning here off a potentially lenient mark.

Mark Johnston described him as a really nice stayer who will be a cup horse earlier in the season and if this is to be the case in the future I'd hope he could win this.

It's his lowest graded race in 8 runs and at 5/1 I think he has a decent chance today.
