Key Points
- This golf betting tip comes from the Dubai Desert Classic and the 1st Round mythical 2 ball between Simon Dyson and Paul Lawrie.
- Sometimes it's important to remember we are betting on human beings. If you simply look at results and stats it's not enough to ensure a profit.
- For instance going on Paul Lawrie's recent form you wouldn't dream of betting against him this week. However when we consider Lawrie's frame of mind this week, your opinion might chance.
- Lawrie was superb on Sunday winning the Qatar Masters with an excellent final round of 65. He then flew to Dubai that evening and didn't arrive at his hotel until 12.30am.
- How do I know this? We it's all his blog on his website. He mentioned how he only managed a few hours sleep due to a corporate event the following day. Lawrie said "It was great fun even though I was really tired.".
- You would of thought then that Lawrie would get a lot of rest. But no he woke up the following morning at 5am and went out to practice.
- To make matters worse Lawrie has a 7.10am local time tee off on Thursday. With the practice before the round Lawrie won't be getting up any later than 5am.
- The point I am trying to make is Lawrie will be exhausted come Thursday, add in on the extra media duties as a result of his win in Qatar and he might just be happy to miss the cut come Friday evening.
- That would be a familiar feeling for Lawrie having missed the cut 4 times in the past 5 seasons in this event.
- The one time he did make the cut in this spell Lawrie finished 67th, so his record on this golf course is poor.
- Simon Dyson flew to Dubai on Saturday having taken last week off in Qatar.
- His form has not been as good as Lawrie but he did play well in Abu Dhabi finishing 17th.
- He also has a much better record in this tournament having finished in the top 25 on five occasions in the past 8 seasons.
- Dyson won twice towards the latter stages of 2011 and will have his heart set on the Ryder Cup this year.
- Yes Lawrie has been playing well but if you asked me who was the better golfer at this moment in time I would have to go with Dyson. The World Rankings back this up with Dyson in 26th, Lawrie 47th.
- So in summary we have odds of 11/10 on the better golfer, with a better record in this tournament and much, much, much fresher. Great value.
- Paddy Power are the only bookmaker offering this 2 ball and hopefully by the time we have piled on they will regret this decision. Click below to join.
