- I have to admit even I am too young to remember Olazabal in his heyday and I will also admit I was too quick to write off his recent return to the game.
- Olazabal is a class act with 23 European Tour wins to his name. 1 of those wins came in Dubai back in 1998, I do have some memories of that win and was shortly after he returned from a foot injury.
- Olazabal has a very good record in this tournament and from his 6 appearances he has recorded 5 top 25 finishes.
- He has been in good form in recent weeks. He was right in the mix at the Volvo Golf Champions and was actually joint leader at the early stages of the final round. He eventually finished 6th.
- I wasn't surprised that he struggled in Abu Dhabi as the rough was very thick and accuracy off the tee is Olazabal's one main weakness. He bounced back last week however finishing just outside the top 10 in Qatar.
- Luiten is a class act but has made a slow start to the season. He finished 26th at Fancourt in a limited field.
- Luiten then struggled in Abu Dhabi finishing outside the top 40. In fact Luiten has now failed to break 71 in his last 7 rounds.
- He will be making his 3rd appearance in the Dubai Desert Classic and has yet to make the cut.
- That leaves Tom Lewis who is also a great talent but like Luiten has struggled in recent weeks.
- He missed the cut in both Qatar and Abu Dhabi and his last 7 rounds of golf have been 74, 77, 73, 75, 72, 76, 74.
- The problem for Lewis is he is playing all the courses for the first time so this leaves him at a big disadvantage to experienced players like Olazabal who know what to expect.
