Birmingham v Aston Villa

Football - The Championship - 29 Oct 12:00

Don't worry this is in no way a knee jerk reaction to the disappointing 97th minute goal from Zaha yesterday that spoiled a good profitable Saturday. I've had this tip written out since Thursday and I'm glad I waited as the odds have drifted nicely.

Birmingham have responded well since Steve Cotterill came in and they've recorded back to back 1-0 home wins. Those wins came over Cardiff and Sheff Wed, two decent sides in this division.

There's no doubt Villa have improved but I think some of their results have flattered them. They've still lost 3 of their last 6 away games. If we include last season then it's 13 defeats in their last 20 Championship away games.

They've had two convincing wins on the road recently at Burton and Barnsley but again the scorelines were not a true reflection of the games. Villa took their chances and in the Barnsley game in particular they could easily have been 1 or 2 goals behind before taking the lead.

Anything can happy in a derby but I fancy Birmingham at the current prices. I think Cotterill will slowly steer them away from the drop zone and a 3rd straight home win here would certainly help that cause.
