Crystal Palace v West Brom Man of the Match Darren Fletcher

Football - Premier League - 03 Oct 12:45

The early kick off this week takes place at Selhurst Park as Crystal Palace host West Bromwich Albion.

As this is a Tony Pulis WBA side playing away from home, I’m expecting a low scoring affair, therefore it makes sense to go with a defensive minded player and I’d argue that Darren Fletcher fits into that category.

Michael Owen is the commentator and I was very tempted to back a defender in this market, however Owen very rarely selects defenders as the man of the match. I’ve noticed over the past couple of seasons that he often picks defensive midfielders for the award, particularly in low scoring affairs.

Obviously WBA must get a result for Fletcher to be named the man of the match and the odds suggest there’s a good chance of that happening. Palace have struggled at home under Pardew, largely because their style of football suits away matches where they can counter attack.

Now why Darren Fletcher? Well as I’ve mentioned above, he’s the type of player Owen would select in a low scoring match and he’s a hard working midfielder which is always beneficial.

Fletcher is also the captain of West Brom, which may or may not be advantageous in this market. A gritty team performance that leads to WBA getting a result could lead to the captain getting some extra credit.
