Chelsea v Newcastle Shown a Card: Jonjo Shelvey

Football - England: Premier League - 02 Dec 12:30

Bit of speculative tip for this one, Sky bet giving just a little bit too much away for me on this one at 3/1. In the 8 games Shelvey has started this season he has been carded 3 times, 2 yellows and one straight red.

Although he's more of a deep lying playmaker, playing in front of the defence he still sees his fair share of the action and gets stuck in. Despite his talent Shelvey can be extremely temperamental, especially I think here against what will be possession dominant Chelsea at home adding to the frustration.

Shelvey picked up two of his yellows in his last 4 games amidst an awful streak without a win, Chelsea are around 2/7 favourites to win here so I can't see Newcastle's fortunes changing, Hazard, Willian and Morata are all fantastic technically and prone to drawing fouls from the opposition.

Kevin Friend is the referee for this one. In 12 games he's dished out 28 yellows and 1 red. He oversaw the Southampton v Newcastle game in October and booked two Newcastle players in that game.

Benitez will likely set up Newcastle defensively here with Lascelles still unlikely to feature so we could see Shelvey play even deeper than he's accustomed to. I'm willing to take a small gamble on Shelvey to get booked here at this price.
