Aston Villa v Preston

Football - England Championship - 20 Feb 19:45

Aston Villa take on Preston North End in the English Championship.

Villa's fine run of wins finally came to an end last time out when they played Fulham at Craven cottage, they lost the match 2-0, and never looked like troubling the home side for 90 minutes.

That was Villa's first defeat in seven and the first time they hadn't scored in a game since mid December when Derby won 2-0 at home. Next up they play Preston and this could prove to be another tricky fixture.

Villa have doubts over three key players for this one, Adamoah and Grealish are both sidelined and Ahmed Elmohamady is considered doubtful after limping off against Fulham. These are key players that are vital to the way Villa play with a 4-1-4-1 system.

They surely are weakened without these available. Robert Snodgrass was asked to play out of position because of the injury to Adamoah and never had an impact on the game at Fulham and was eventually substituted by Steve Bruce.

Preston are moving along very nicely and haven't tasted defeat away from home since the beginning of November. They currently sit just 3 points outside the top six and their run of 1 loss in 15 matches surely gives them a chance in this one

Alex Neil has Preston well organised in defence and only two goals conceded in their last 5 away games suggests Villa could find it difficult breaking down this well oiled defensive unit. Preston are boosted by the return of Greg Cunningham and Ben Pearson after their suspensions. Ben Pearson will surely slot back into midfield and Cunningham could slot back into the left back position.

This is no more than a value bet for me. Villa do have an incredible home record with only one defeat this season. Preston do have a knack of upsetting teams away from home. They have beaten Cardiff and Bristol City away this season, and give Wolves a few scares scoring twice in the second half, only to lose just by a 3-2 scoreline.
