Melbourne Victory - Time of 1st Goal = 2nd Half v Adelaide United

Football - AUSTRALIA: A-League - 08 Dec 08:50

Melbourne Victory have had a stuttering start to the season after starting off with 2 losses & 4 draws from their first 6 matches. They've turned it around with 2 wins from their last 3.

Scoring goals hasn't been an issue, finding the net in 8/9 matches, however, they've been subject to regular sluggish starts & having to play catch up. 12 goals scored this season but only 2 have come before HT !

In 7/9 matches they've failed to score in the 1st half. At home, 4 matches & 0 1st half goals.

Last week they came back to record a 2-3 away win v Wellington but again failed to score any 1st half goals.

Adelaide have conceded 1st half goals in 3 of their last 5 matches, however overall their defence has held tight. Last week (round 9) reigning champions, Sydney FC, only scored at 45 min.

Prior to that, round 8, Adelaide kept a clean sheet at HT.

Round 7, Central Coast scored their 1st at 40 min (penalty).

Round 6, again a late 1st half goal conceded (Newcastle at 45 min) & round 5 another 1st half clean sheet.

This highlights to me that Adelaide have recently been setting up tight at the back early on. Their defence will be strengthened this week with the return of 2 regular fullbacks, Michael Marrone and Ben Garuccio.

MV will again have the leagues record marksman, Berisha, at the centre of attack. 3 goals in his last 4 matches & scored in his last 4 matches v Melbourne Victory. Really don't think it's a case of IF MV can score, rather when ?

Getting over 2/1 odds for Adelaide to hold them out until HT is great value.
