Phil Taylor v Michael Van Gerwen

Darts - Grand Slam of Darts - 19 Nov 14:45

What a crazy price? What were the bookies watching yesterday. Phil Taylor might be retiring at the end of this season but he's clearly not going out with a wimper. Not only did he destroy an in form Daryl Gurney 16-4 with a 103.97 average he made comments in his interview afterwards which basically told the rest of the players he still believes he's the best.

He proved it at Blackpool by winning the World Matchplay for a 16th time. He prefers this format to set play as he can really bully opponents and his consistency leg in leg out makes it tough to beat him. No one got close to him in the Matchplay to be fair including Van Gerwen who Taylor thrashed 16-6.

Taylor is also a 6 time champion here in the Grand Slam. As well as MVG has been playing, Taylor has had the upper hand in recent encounters. He's won 6 of their last 8 meetings including the last 2.

Based on yesterdays performance alone you could argue this is 50:50. Of course MVG has been far more dominant over the past 2-3 years but when Taylor has really shown the desire he's been able to match him.

All in for me based on perceived value. We may never see odds like this on Phil Taylor ever again. To be fair you could probably count on 1 hand how many times he's been 3/1 for a match in his entire PDC career.
