Australia v Pakistan Starc Top Series Wicket Taker

Cricket - Test series - 07 Jan 03:30

I think this is money for old rope. He stays fit he wins.

Starc has 7, Bird 6, Amir and Riaz 5, Hazelwood 3.

The margin of victory in game 1 is misleading. Australia could have batted on and ended up 500-600 ahead, and had they held their catches Shafiq would have been out for 20 odd in the 2nd innings (and Id have got 2nd place in the tipping comp) and they have won by 200+.

I expect the gap in day test matches to be even wider. As such I can't see Pakistan being competitive enough to allow their bowlers anything like 40 wickets to shoot at in the next 2 games. So I am ruling them out.

By the same token, Bird is a swing bowler, who benefited from the extra movement of the pink ball, he is still very much a newbie in tests, he also doesn't open the bowling which is another disadvantage.

What I love is the 4 wicket cushion Starc now has on what I consider his main rival, Hazelwood.

Starc averages 4.5 wickets a test a home, rising to 5 at home in the last 2 years.

Hazelwood is about the same, but he has 2 wickets @102 each in Melbourne and 4 wickets @36 in Sydney. He does a lot better when their is grass on the wicket, like in DN tests, he has 18 wickets in 3 games. 15 in 2 games as Adelaide, 13 in 2 in Hobart.

He also has an injury history and 40+ overs in the second innings of game 2 is a lot.
