Australia vs England - Lyon vs Ali

Cricket - Test match - 02 Dec 03:00

Lyon looks a good match-up vs Moeen. He comfortably out-bowled him in the 1st test (maybe not on figures but he looked far more threatening). Lyon is also part of a 4-man attack, so he should get through more bowling than Moeen, who's part of a 5-man attack.

Moeen has failed to take a wicket in 16/35 tests played outside of Asia, and has taken only 1 on another 8 occasions so he hasn't been prolific first time around.

Lyon has experience of bowling here in day-night tests, he used to actually work her as a groundsman so he'll feel right at home and he's got a decent record in 1st innings in Australia (60 wickets in 33 innings).

The added bonus is that Moeen may not even be fit to bowl. Jonathon Agnew has just tweeted that Moeen needs a fitness test, and may play as a specialist batsman. That they're even thinking along those lines shows how little his bowling may be required even if he's passed fit to bowl, so I'm certainly happy to take him on.

A tie is a loss here, that had put me off slightly to begin with but with the chances of Moeen bowling few or zero overs has certainly tipped the balance in Lyon's favour and this looks a good spot now to get involved.
