South Africa - Top Batsman Hashim Amla v India

Cricket - ODI - 04 Feb 08:00

South Africa's batting is normally pretty solid, but it has a definite weak look to it at the moment. They rely a lot on the "big 4" of Amla, De Kock, Du Plessis and De VIlliers, With De Kock struggling for form and Du Plessis/De Villiers both out injured, Amla now becomes the rock of this line up.

South Africa will go with only 6 specialist batsman. Markram is likely to be 3. He looked all at sea against the wrist spinners last time out, it was painful to watch (I'd backed him, so even more so!) He's now been given the extra burden of captaincy. Zondo might come in at 4, he'd be making his ODi debut. His List "A" record is nothing spectacular. Duminy still flatters to deceive, he's experienced but hasn't produced consistent results. Miller at 6 is a dangerous player, but he's normally held back for the death overs and a destructive cameo.

Amla averages 76.9 at Centurion, with 5 tons in 12 innings. At home against India he averages 55.50. In 2017 he averaged 76 at home.

Amla is as short as 2's elsewhere, 5/2 is the average price and 3/1 the next best. Hills have boosted him to 100/30, that looks very generous given the current Saffer batting line-up.
